Just because you break a law doesn't mean you should forever lose the right to vote, but in Florida under Rick Scott,
that's basically what it does mean. Most convictions in Florida are marijuana busts, so you can lose your right to vote
just by getting caught with drugs on you.
Scott has set up a bogus clemency board where he decides personally who's allowed to get their voting rights back. The
new clemency board requires you to file an application to get your right to vote back and then go to a hearing which only
takes place 4 times a year. The process is set up to deny people the right to regain their voting rights.
Florida is trying to overturn this law by allowing automatic voting rights for people who are convicted of any crime
except for murder or pedophilia. Florida has been home to some very close elections, including the one in 2000 for
President which ended up deciding the US Presidency by 500 votes.
Scott's denial of felons the right to vote is part of a GOP strategy to force black people out of voting. 1 out of 5 black
voters in Florida currently can't vote.
